Learn DBT skills through music!

What is DBT?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a popular and effective therapy model and set of personal growth tools. DBT skills in the areas of mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness support people in replacing maladaptive behaviors with skillful behaviors, in responding to life rather than reacting, and can enhance the lives of all.   Created by Dr. Marsha Linehan, DBT is an evidence based model using skills training to “change behavioral, emotional, thinking, and interpersonal patterns associated with problems in living” (Linehan 2015)

Perhaps you've already discovered DBT and attended skills training groups, or studied the skills on your own. Are you committed to mastering DBT skills for personal growth but find traditional skills training groups challenging to focus or remember what was taught? Do you prefer learning through different teaching styles and contexts, such as through music?

The good news is that you can now study DBT skills through music, making them fun, engaging, and easier to remember and learn!

Whether you've already attended skills training groups, studied on your own, or are brand new to DBT, our innovative approach to teaching DBT skills will help you achieve your personal growth goals.

Why Music?

Music is engaging, fun, & helps us remember things. Reinforcing skills for mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness through music can support people who are involved in a DBT program as well as those who are not.

What if I have no musical talent or know how?

No problem. Our ready made resources are easy for you to use if you are musical or not. Also, our DBT informed Board Certified Music Therapists are available to you in online group meetings.

What People are Saying

" I have ADHD and it's hard for me to remember things I'm trying to learn. Once I learned the skills through song, I was able to tell the group word for word what the letters in DEARMAN stand for and how to use it. (I then had the DEARMAN song stuck in my head for hours.) This is huge! It even helped me at my job interview when they asked me how I would handle conflict with a coworker and I told them the steps of the skill as my answer. Thank you so much for helping me remember the skills."

"DBT Skills Mastery through Music is by far the best Online DBT course I've ever taken. I have been in another DBT course and it was not the best experience.  I love DBT Mastery. Makes me feel safe in an online environment. The skills taught are life skills and crucial skills to know to be present and tolerate distress and manage emotions. They say music is healing. And that is why I joined. To find healing through Music and to be able to utilize the skills learned in my every day life. I would highly recommend this course to anyone wanting a better life for themselves. Through this course I have managed to change my life around. I have long way yet to go but have come far through this course. This is a perfect opportunity to enhance your skills training experience using music to help build skills mastery. The instructors are very good at teaching the skills in an engaging way. Thank you DBT Mastery through Music for allowing me to grow and share my journey with you all. Love you all."

"My new job had some challenges for me. When I attended workplace trainings and we talked about some of the trauma families face, sick feelings were stirring up inside of me because of my own severe childhood trauma. I was having nightmares. I was getting sick alot. I was getting headaches and getting very emotional. I was also at a point having just started my job and trying to get caught up after having lost my previous job, that I couldn't really afford to see a therapist regularly, even though I knew I really needed to. I love music. I took a children's music therapy class in college and really enjoyed the class. And, this class was being offered for a monthly fee similar to what my copay for a single week would be with just talk therapy and no music. The bonus is you still get the weekly music therapy lessons and they're easy to access from your home and the music therapist is always quick to respond when you have a question. Great idea!"
