⭐Creative, ready-to-use music-based tools to help clients engage with, practice, and remember DBT skills.
Created by Deborah Spiegel MT-BC and a team of music therapists experienced in integrating DBT skills with music.
“Sometimes clients don’t need more explanation. They need a different experience of the skill.”
DBT clinician, does this sound familiar?
There's a client who isn't fully engaging in group. The skills aren’t landing. You’re doing your best, but something isn't connecting for them.u your text in this area
You wish there was a way to ...
Sometimes, what’s missing is a spark, a new way to present the skills so they feel relevant, memorable, and practical.
That’s where we come in.
Fresh tools. Engaged clients.
More ways to teach. Skills that stick.
Introducing...
DBT Music Membership for Clinicians!
Ready-to-use music-based tools for the DBT skills you already teach.
We've created original songs, music-based activities, demonstrations, handouts, and session ideas designed to help you bring a different kind of experience to DBT skills training.
The resources are designed so you can simply play the video or audio and guide your clients through the experience using the instructions provided.
You don't have to sing, play an instrument, or create the activity yourself.
Engage your clients who used to struggle due to different learning styles, and enjoy that they are now having fun learning and are remembering the skills.
ThUse music to add variety to the way you teach and reinforce DBT skills, engage different learning styles, and bring something fresh to clients who may have heard the same material before.
Instead of starting from scratch when you want a creative way to reinforce a DBT skill, go directly to the library and find music-based resources you can use or adapt for your clients.
Use different activities and musical experiences to revisit familiar skills in new ways, whether you're working in groups, individual sessions, or virtual settings.
WHATS INSIDE:
Here's a sneak peek at some of the Mindfulness resources you'll find inside the membership.
This video includes clips from several of our music-based Mindfulness experiences, designed to give clients creative ways to experience and reinforce DBT Mindfulness skills.
"I just want to take a minute and give a shout-out to Deborah and the team! Everyone involved has put so much time and effort into making this a meaningful experience and it shows! I always enjoy the resources. This gives me an alternative way to help my clients learn and remember the skills. They've made it interesting and interactive. I truly see the value. As a clinician who is not comfortable using music. I love that I can show the videos directly to my clients. "
- Hillary C.
"Thank you for this wonderful resource! I use it constantly for new creative ideas to engage my clients, and so did my intern. "
- Nola K.
"I want to share what happened today. I have a client who has ADHD and has difficulty retaining information. Once he learned the skills through song, he was able to tell the group word for word what the letters in DEARMAN stand for and how to use it. (He said he then had the DEARMAN song stuck in his head for hours.) This is huge! Thank you so much for helping clients like him remember the skills."
-Deborah S.
Will this add value to the DBT skills training I already provide?
That’s exactly what the membership was created to do.
You already know DBT and how to teach the skills. The DBT Music Membership for Clinicians gives you another way to help clients experience, practice, and reinforce those skills.
You'll have access to:
Do I need to be musical?
No.
You do not need to sing, play an instrument, or consider yourself musical to use the membership.
The resources are designed so you can simply play the video or audio for your clients and use the accompanying instructions and materials to facilitate the experience.
How much time does it take?
The resource library was designed for busy clinicians.
Rather than creating a new activity from scratch, you can go directly to the DBT skill you're teaching and find music-based resources you can use or adapt.
Materials are:
How can music support DBT skills training?
Music provides another modality through which clients can engage with DBT skills and concepts.
Research has also explored the integration of music therapy into DBT skills training. A study conducted at Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital compared traditional DBT skills groups with DBT skills groups that incorporated music therapy led by a board-certified music therapist with DBT training. The results were published in the Journal of Music Therapy in 2022.
It's important to make a distinction: This membership does not provide music therapy, nor does using these resources make someone a music therapist. Just as learning about DBT techniques does not make someone a DBT therapist, these resources are intended to give DBT clinicians creative, practical ways to incorporate music into skills training within their own professional scope of practice.
Can my clients access these on their own?
Yes.
We also offer a separate DBT Music Membership for People Learning DBT, designed for individuals who want to use music to help them learn, practice, and remember their DBT skills.
Members receive:
